RoHS and WEEE Compliance

We are fully RoHS compliant. Every power strip we manufacture carries the WEEE wheelie bin label.

RoHS Compliance

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) or European Union Directive 2002/95/EC restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products. All electrical and electronic products containing these restricted substances sold in the EU market since July 1, 2006 must pass RoHS compliance.

The Restricted Substances

The six substances banned under RoHS are lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr-VI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

These restricted substances are hazardous and harmful to the environment. They pollute landfills and are dangerous to humans in terms of occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.

Tests for RoHS Compliance

Portable RoHS analysers, also known as X-ray fluorescence XRF metal analysers, undertake the screening and verification of RoHS compliance.

Any business that sells applicable electronic products, sub-assemblies or components directly to EU countries, or sells to resellers, distributors or integrators that in turn sell products to EU countries using any of the restricted substances must comply.

WEEE

WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) or EU Directive 2002/96/EC mandates the treatment, recovery and recycling of electric and electronic equipment (over 90% ends up in landfills). All applicable products in the EU market produced after August 13, 2005 must pass WEEE compliance and carry the "Wheelie Bin" sticker

RoHS and WEEE Together

The WEEE Directive aims to encourage the design of electronic products with environmentally safe recycling and recovery in mind.

The RoHS Directive dovetails into WEEE by reducing the amount of hazardous substances used in product manufacture. This reduces risk to recycling personnel, reduces the need for special handling and treatment and places fewer toxins into landfills and the environment.
